From Dublin’s four day Saint Patrick’s Festival extravaganza to family fun in Cork, we look at the Saint Patrick’s Day Highlights around Ireland for 2015.
Saint Patrick’s Festival, Dublin
The Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations in Dublin get bigger every year and have now become a three day festival spanning from the 14th to 17th of March. It is now a major international festival reflecting the talents and achievements of Irish people and has now become a day that everyone wants to be Irish! Events span across family fun to film, music, sport, comedy and more. There are walking tours in the footsteps of Saint Patrick, road races, traditional Ceili dancing and the ‘greening of the city’ turns Dublin’s iconic buildings green. The culmination of the celebrations is the parade across Dublin city and this year’s theme is ‘Celebrate Now’.

Cork Saint Patrick’s Festival 2015
In Ireland’s ‘other capital’, the focus will be on free family fun this year, as the city bursts in to life for another four day festival from the 14th to the 17th of March. There will be a Festival market this year and outdoor entertainment will be at the center of all the activities, with circus walkabouts and comedy. The culmination of the celebrations in the south will be a Saint Patrick’s Night Fleadh in the Cork Opera House, celebrating what is described as the best of Irish music.
Seachtain na Gaeilge – 1st - 17th of March
Seachtain na Gaeilge is an Irish festival celebrating Irish food, music and song and will happen across Ireland, not just over a week but from the 1st to the 17th of March. This international Irish language festival is one of the biggest celebrations of Irish language and culture and the aim is to give everybody a chance to enjoy the Irish language whether they are a fluent Irish speaker or just learning. There are events in most towns and villages across the country.
Saint Patrick’s Day in Armagh
To celebrate Saint Patrick, Armagh is starting early by hosting Saint Patrick’s Big Night Out on Saturday 14th March which promises “a Festival in one night over three stages”. Celebrations in the area will take place from the 12th to 17th of March, to mark Ireland’s patron saint. The town has strong connections with Saint Patrick and the cathedral that Saint Patrick founded there was to have pre-eminence over all in the country.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day 2015 – wherever you are in the world!
